Australian Philip Robert Grandfield Deported to Australia After Six Years in Prison on Pedophilia Conviction
News Corp Australia reports that 67-year-old Australian Philip Robert Grandfield has released from a North Bali prison after serving six of an eight year sentence for the sexual molestation of underage boys in Bali. Grandfield was imprisoned in 2009 after being found guilty of sexual contact with five boys aged 16 and 17 during a six-month period in 2008.
Grandfield converted to Islam during his stay in prison and applied for early release that failed to receive the support of either the Australian or Indonesian governments. Demonstrating good behavior during his imprisonment and served sufficient time for early release, Grandfield walked out of his Singaraja prison on Friday, October 17, 2014 and into the custody of immigration authorities who expeditiously deported him back to Melbourne, Australia.
He had sought to get a letter of guarantee from the Australian Government in order to be freed on parole but the request was denied. Claiming innocence, Grand insists he was framed by unnamed enemies in North Bali who, in order to seize his property, had sent boy to his premises, claiming the young men were 18 and 19 years of age. The legal age for consensual sexual relation in Indonesia is 18 years. Grandfield is banned from re-entering Indonesia for at least six-months.
