Regional Election Commission (KPUD) of Bali decided to postpone the implementation of the Bali local elections simultaneously in six regencies, one city on the island, which previously scheduled to take place in May 2015. “For the meanthime, we postpone it to avoid confusion,” said Chairman of the Election Commission of Bali, Dewa Raka Sandi encountered in the Coordination and Evaluation Meeting Legislative and Election of President and Vice President in 2014 in Denpasar on Monday.
According to him, a plenary meeting should have been organized on Tuesday (21/10) in six stages related to determination of the Election Commission districts / city in Bali for the organization of elections. The six areas are the city of Denpasar, Badung, Tabanan, Karangasem, Bangli and Jembrana. However, after the adoption of the election law which is now changed to the indirect election and then issued Indirect Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perpu) related to Direct Election.
It is also not known exactly which mechanism will be used either directly or indirectly though the implementation of elections in the six regions is getting closer. For that, through this meeting, it would make perception to the Election Commission in six districts / city. “We’re discussing perception of the organization of the election that was temporarily suspended by the central government,” he added.
Previously, as a result of the adoption of Regional Election Bill, the Election Commission of Bali at the discretion of the Central Election Commission, does not allow KUPD districts / city that will hold elections to use budget comes from the State Revenue and Expenditure. In fact, he said, Karangasem regency has signed a grant from the local government to the local Election Commission. “If the local has set aside grants, they have to wait a central government policy before using it,” he said.
