Movie enthusiasts will get a chance to see the works of French filmmakers in an annual festival at Beachwalk cinema in Kuta this weekend. Eight French movies are scheduled for screening during the French Cinema Festival from Friday to Sunday at Studio 1 of Cinema XXI/21 Beachwalk. In this year’s festival, Institut Francais Indonesia is partnering with Cinema XXI/21 and Rendez-vous with French Cinema in Singapore to present the eight new movies that have never been screened in Indonesia before.
The eight movies are from various genres, ranging from action, to horror, drama, romance, comedy and animation. As the first foreign movie festival in Indonesia, initiated in 1996, the French Cinema Festival this year returns with the new format that was tried out last year, comprising three main programs: Newest French Film Panorama, “Retrospektif Abdellatif Kechiche” and Indonesian Short Movie Competition.
“This festival is an opportunity for Indonesian people to learn the quality and diversity of French movies,” the Alliance Francaise Denpasar stated in a press release made available for Bali Daily. The first movie to be screened is Amour et Turbulences (Love is in the Air), a romantic comedy directed by Alexandre Castagnetti, on Friday at 7:15 p.m. Starring Ludivine Sagnier and Nicolas Bedos, the 96-minute movie portrays Julie, who meets Antoine on a seven-hour flight from New York to Paris.
Her encounter with her ex-boyfriend, who broke up with her three years ago, occurred at the time she was pregnant and about to marry her boyfriend Franck. On Saturday, the festival will screen four movies in a row, starting from 3 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. The movies are Zarafa, Le Promeneur d’Oiseau, Dark Touch and Le Guetteur. On Sunday, the last day of the festival, the three movies are to be screened from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. are Un Plan Parfait, L’Ecume des Jours and Mobius. Tickets for the festival are now available for sale at the XXI counter. Complete information can be found on festivalsinemaprancis.com.
