Bali spas reap awards at AsiaSpa 2013

Four Bali-based spa treatment centers won coveted prizes in the AsiaSpa Awards 2013 held last week in Hong Kong. The annual event was organized by AsiaSpa magazine, a luxury lifestyle and travel publication dedicated to highlighting the latest destinations, wellness sanctuaries, spa treatments, retreats, fashion and beauty across the region. Jiwa Spa at Conrad Bali, a luxurious resort in Nusa Dua, was awarded Men’s Spa of the Year. Jiwa Spa offers its signature treatment package VitaMan, designed exclusively for male patrons.

It comprises exotic massage techniques distilled from the traditions of East and West and therapeutic treatments enriched with natural, botanical extracts to enhance their effectiveness. It is equipped with ten treatment rooms, five garden pavilions, two pool pavilions and a private 25-meter spa pool. In 2010, Jiwa Spa was honored as Favorite Spa in Indonesia in the Spa Finder Readers’ Choice Award. Fivelements, Puri Ahimsa, a healing center founded upon Balinese traditions, was awarded Spa Retreat of the Year.

Nestled alongside Ayung River in Mambal, Badung, Fivelements presents Balinese therapies, a living foods dining room, and bamboo mandala pavilions for sacred arts healing. It embraces holistic Balinese-inspired therapies administered by traditional Balinese healers using ancient wisdom passed down from direct lineage. Its signature Panca Mahabhuta (five elements) Retreat comprises a holistic integrative approach designed to tune-in on the physical, emotional and spiritual levels, allowing an organic healing process to naturally unfold.

Fivelements also offers its master series, a retreat and talks package given by leading authorities in meditation, healthy foods and transformational arts. Cocoon Medical Spa in Kuta was awarded Medi-Spa of the Year. Its packages have been put together by some of the best Australian and British cosmetic doctors, underlining the spa’s core commitment to provide its patrons with only tried and tested methods in improving skin and beauty.

It offers a rich variety of treatments, from Diamond Microdermabrasion to remove dead skin cells, smooth wrinkles, treat pimples and clear the complexion, to LED Light Therapy for skin rejuvenation and treating fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, acne and problem skin, sensitive and inflammatory conditions, such as rosacea, eczema and psoriasis. COMO Shambala Estate in Ubud, Gianyar, was awarded Spa Cuisine of the Year. The estate offers retreats with resident experts, including a yoga teacher, Ayurvedic doctor and nutritionist.

COMO Shambhala Cuisine takes its unique inspiration from the living foods tradition. This maintains the nutritional integrity of the original foods’ essential enzymes, vitamins and minerals and allows the patrons to benefit from the “life force” of specific ingredients — many of them raw, brought from field to table with minimum delay. The food materials are organic locally sourced whenever possible. COMO Shambhala Cuisine also actively accommodates food intolerances and diabetics.

Its Kudus House, a picturesque 150-year-old former Javanese residence, showcases the diverse influences, flavors and spices of Indonesia’s regions. The most prestigious accolades in the event went to spas in Thailand and India. ESPA at Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Krabi, Thailand, won the honor for the Southeast Asia and Pacific, while Ananda Spa at Ananda in the Himalayas, India, won for North and West Asia region. AsiaSpa 2013 involved 21 categories and a panel of 18 expert judges.

Awards were bestowed on spas, hotels and resorts, retreats, academies, personalities and products that had exhibited outstanding achievements in not only luxury standards, but also innovation and ecological awareness in the wellness fields. The award night, held at Hong Kong’s W, was attended by over 350 leading spa professionals from across the region. “2013 has been an exceptionally interesting year, with many new spas and products entering the ninth AsiaSpa Awards,” said Vivienne Tang, editor-in-chief of AsiaSpa magazine. “It was extremely refreshing to see that some of these newcomers walked away with an award.” The exquisite trophies were provided by Baccarat with additional event sponsorship by W Hong Kong, Ila, Bodywize and Kaprice.
