West Denpasar Police have sealed a petrol station on Jl. Gatot Subroto after arresting one of the station’s staff for allegedly attempting to sell 2 tons of diesel fuel without proper documents. The man was identified as Anak Agung Gede Wirawan. He was placed under police custody alongside I Made Dedy Ana Setiawan and I Ketut Sumita, the former being the driver of the truck fitted with hidden storage for diesel fuel and the latter his assistant. Petrol stations sell diesel fuel at a subsidized price and major industries are not allowed to purchase diesel fuel from petrol stations.
Illegal schemes involving sales of subsidized diesel fuel to major industries to maximize profit is a rampant phenomenon in the country. Police arrested Wirawan on Tuesday following the arrest of his alleged accomplices. The police also seized a truck and 10 barrels of diesel fuel inside its hidden storage. Wirawan admitted that he planned on selling the diesel fuel to major industries. Following the arrest, the police installed a police line around the petrol station and sealed its three pumps. “We are currently investigating whether this illegal operation also involved other people. The petrol station will be sealed until we receive an order from the West Denpasar police chief,” the precinct spokesperson Ketut Merta Bujangga said.
