The employee union of the telecommunication company PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom), known as Sekar Telkom, has donated 5,643 books to nine elementary schools in Bima regency, West Nusa Tenggara. Under a social program named Bakti Bagi Negeri (BBN), Sekar Telkom distributed the books starting Feb. 26 to March 1 to four schools in Tambora district, two schools in Langgudu district and three others in Lambu district, Parado district and Sape district, respectively. “This is our 10th round of distributing books and the first one this year.
We started this year’s round in conjunction with the 13th anniversary of Sekar Telkom,” said the union’s chairman Wisnu Adhi Wuryanto in a press release. From 2012, BBN has aimed to distribute 500,000 books to elementary schools in remote areas nationwide, in accordance with the company’s commitment to improving people’s knowledge through information and technology. So far, the union has distributed 42,254 books to 91 elementary schools in East Kalimantan, Banten, North Sulawesi, Maluku, Lampung, West Sulawesi, East Java, Riau and East Nusa Tenggara.
The union raised cash donations from its members and bought books to be distributed to recipients by BBN volunteers. The public are welcomed to donate money to the union bank account: Bank Mandiri, Sekar Telkom, Bakti Bagi Negeri, account number 1310010545459.
