Small-scale chocolate producers supported

The Denpasar municipal office has opened wide the opportunity for home-based chocolate producers to get free training and equipment. Gede Ambara, head of the agriculture agency’s food and horticulture crops department, said the office has provided Rp 200 million (US$21,800) in funds for training and procurement of chocolate-making equipment. Chocolate in any kind of market is a favorite food, he said.

Putu Budiasa, head of Denpasar tourism office, said the production of home-made chocolate would be profitable.  It can be packaged as a gift or souvenir, Budiasa said. Djinaldi Gosana, chairman of Bali Hotel Association (BHA), an association which groups four and five star hotels on the island, said they were ready to procure chocolate products from ho me industries here. The most important thing is to maintain the quality and have sustainable delivery, Gosana said.
